Timely compliance with required filing and reporting obligations is an important part of maintaining public trust in nonprofit organizations, particularly those benefiting from tax-exempt status. NorthJersey.com highlighted these obligations after the New York-New Jersey World Cup host committee, a 501(c)(6) nonprofit, missed a required annual filing deadline following previous delays in its state registration.
William Hurlock emphasized the connection between compliance, transparency and tax-exempt status. “That’s the whole reason to have these reporting requirements to begin with is to give the public a level of confidence that the entity should have a tax-exempt status,” Hurlock said.
“Transparency is everything.”
