Ahead of the FDA’s July 23–24 Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) meeting, The American Journal of Managed Care examined the potential implications of the FDA’s review of seven peptides under consideration for the Section 503A Bulks List. The article highlighted the regulatory uncertainty surrounding the review and noted that any changes to compounding policy would require additional FDA action before taking effect.
Jesse Dresser discussed the potential impact on payors and health systems if peptide access expands. During Frier Levitt’s webinar with Edgar Asebey, Jesse emphasized that the PCAC meeting was only the beginning of what is likely to be a multiyear regulatory process. Although the committee has since voted to recommend several peptides for inclusion on the 503A Bulks List, that vote is just one step in a broader rulemaking process that stakeholders should continue to monitor.
