Frier Levitt Co-Managing Partner Daniel Frier recently joined Jack Feltz, M.D., President of the U.S. Women’s Health Alliance, and Rebecca Herrero, M.D., MBA, FACOG, President and CEO of Women’s Health Associates of Southern Nevada, on the Medical Economics podcast to discuss the growing challenges facing independent physician practices and the policy reforms needed to preserve patient choice and improve healthcare affordability.
During the discussion, Daniel highlighted how reimbursement disparities allow hospitals to receive significantly higher payments than independent physician practices for the same outpatient services, accelerating physician consolidation and increasing healthcare costs. He also discussed the proposed Independent Medical Practice Sustainability and Patient Access Act, explaining how clarifying Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute standards and narrowing site-of-service payment disparities could help create a more competitive healthcare marketplace while preserving access to independent physician care.
