Veterinary Compounders

In addition to many of the issues faced by compounders of human drugs, veterinary compounding involves additional concerns, including greater restrictions on what practices are considered permissible (for example, the Animal Medicinal Drug Use Clarification Act of 1994 (AMDUCA) prohibition on using “bulk” ingredients). Recent incidents, such the deaths of 21 polo ponies due to an improperly compounded drug, have resulted in increasing FDA scrutiny of veterinary compounders, and any pharmacy that engages in this practice needs to stay abreast of the current and future changes in the law. Frier Levitt has experience advising veterinary compounders in all legal and regulatory issues, including AMDUCA, in-office use and resale, and FDA regulations on veterinary compounding, as well as in all general pharmacy related legal matters.
