On October 24, 2008, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a press release advising that Thoratec Corporation was issuing a worldwide medical device correction for its HeartMate II Left Ventricular Assist System. Patients who have Catalogue No. 1355 or 102139 have reported problems with the system.
